I want to introduce my latest project, “Clean Social Share Widget.”

I was tired of social sharing widgets slowing down the loading time of my site. The crazy amount of JavaScript that they were requesting really hurt performance.

Scott Hanselman had a post about pure HTML sharing and I adapted his techniques to work in a WordPress plugin. You can see it in action in my sidebar.

It allows users to share your content via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn. More will be added as I find more social networks that allow this type of sharing.

Using Clean Social Share Widget

Do you want to test it, use it, or make it better? There are two ways to download it.

2. Fork Clean Share on GitHub

I’ll be submitting it to the WordPress.org plugin repository soon. In the mean time, let me know what you think in the comments, and don’t forget to mention any way I can make it better.

Update: I’ve just uploaded version 0.2! It now supports email, LinkedIn, Digg, and Reddit, in addition to the others.
